Scope: North Pole International Depot project, which transformed a derelict site into a modern, high-tech maintenance facility for Channel Tunnel rolling stock. Successful project planning, procurement of 39 main contractors, construction, commissioning and the staged hand-over to European Passenger Services. Led negotiations with the 4 adjacent railways and the 3 London Boroughs through which the site ran, securing all necessary agreements, including Planning Permission and freight access paths. Scope: Principal works on the 50 acre site included: 413m long, six track, Servicing Shed; 215m x 32m Repair Shed with simultaneous jacking facility; Bogie Drop; Tandem Wheel Lathe; SNCF, SNCB and BR traction systems; Pumped water ring main; 8 no. cranes from 2.5 to 40 tonne capacity; CCTV; 22km of new track and associated drainage including 68 no. points of which 38 no. are signalled; Goliath crane; 7,000m of walkway linked by four miles of roadway and enclosed by 7km of security fencing.
